UPC DTH has signed a deal with Telenor Satellite Broadcasting (TSBc) in a bid to extend its HDTV reach from the 1° West neighbourhood.
UPC DTH will broadcast the two new HD channels in its four Central and Eastern European markets of Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Romania. Both channels, which will be localised for each individual country, will be available in early June. The TV firm will now expand its HD line-up serving UPC Direct in Hungary, freeSAT in the Czech Republic and Slovakia and focussat in Romania.
In an indication of the timing of the contract, UPC DTH will add Eurosport HD and Eurosport 2 HD to its HD channel packages ahead of the upcoming Euro 2012 football championship. With this expansion, UPC DTH claims that its services will be among the leading providers of top quality HD and SD channels in all its markets.
Commented Cato Halsaa, Vice President and CEO of Telenor Satellite Broadcasting, commented: “This agreement represents further growth in our long-standing relationship with UPC DTH and we are committed to supporting its future DTH expansion plans within Central and Eastern Europe.”
